Training Methods

Creativity-based training

The core concept of the engineering profession is problem-solving. Engineering as a purposeful creative process to solve new as well as existing problems in industry and to address various challenges of mankind. The way we teach and interact should make the trainee to be stimulated by those challenges, rather than avoiding them. Thus, a natural inclination must be fostered to address actual problems common in development and operation. The trainee must understand that finally their work will only be relevant, if indeed it solves the problem, or in other words, if the process or system will produce what is required or promised. Consequently, wherever possible, we will assess the primary outcome of our training modules by evaluating the trainees' problem-solving capability – both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Experience-driven training

The entire training is revolving around process development to plant design of a selected process / plant. On one hand, the big picture – from lab to plant operation – will be kept in focus while working on detailed tasks. On the other hand, the trainee will experience the tasks and challenges within the various disciplines. Because the professional activities revolve around work teams, the training will partly be carried out in teams, assigning tasks to individuals and larger requirements to the teams.

Quick-start training for respective software modules

State-of-the-art of process engineering requires a set of world-class computer-based tools. To make working with those tools a productive endeavor and a positive experience, we will provide a necessary quick-start training for each tool. This training and the project work needed are carefully coordinated to avoid a full-fledged software training, while providing a profound understanding of the necessary background in areas like (bio-)chemistry, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, control systems and mechanical design.

Training Atelier

Like in a professional set-up, a training environment has been developed that will provide the necessary resources and tools for a professional engineering team. It consists of an IT-infrastructure powered with world-class software programs for process modelling and simulation up to process engineering design. In addition, a comprehensive toolset delivers necessary resources for effective engineering work, which is composed of a custom-designed set of procedures, rules, codes, documentation standards and business processes to simulate a well-established engineering firm.

The Trainer

Leading through a wide range of disciplines to develop a process concept up to the design a processing plant requires a trainer to be exceptionally well-versed and experienced in a wide-range spectrum of applications to achieve the desired learning outcome. The emphasis must be on broad and deep understanding rather than highly-specialized knowledge. Furthermore, to inculcate the necessary courage, yes even a daring engineering spirit into the mind of the participants, the trainer must represent an inspiring role-model by the way he illustrates scientific and engineering principles in the classroom and how he addresses the diverse questions and ideas during the entire course and over the various disciplines.

Michael G. Schnitzlein, head and founder of ProcessEngineer.EU has received his formal training in chemical engineering and business administration both in Germany and the U.S. He has acquired extensive experience in process engineering and operations management during the last 35 years in both multinational companies as well as medium sized operations in Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States. In addition, he has been teaching process engineering and plant design subjects at universities and technical colleges for the last 15 years, while engaging in process development and research projects.
